چکیده

A boundary element formulation is presented in this work for transient heat conduction analysis of threedimensional (3D) fiber-reinforced materials. The cylindrical-shaped fibers in a 3D matrix are idealized by a system of curvilinear line elements with a prescribed diameter. The variations in the temperature and flux fields in the circumferential direction are represented in terms of a trigonometric shape function together with a linear or quadratic variation in the longitudinal direction. This approach significantly reduces the modeling effort and the computing cost. The storage requirement for the convolution integrals is eliminated by adopting an accurate integration-based convolution algorithm for the surface of the hole and the fibers as well as a fast convolution algorithm for the outer boundary recently developed by the present authors. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and applicability of the proposed method of analysis of fiber-reinforced materials. Copyright q 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

A truly meshless method formulation for analysis of non-Fourier heat conduction in solids

The non-Fourier effect in heat conduction is important in strong thermal environments and thermal shock problems. Generally, commercial FE codes are not available for analysis of non-Fourier heat conduction. In this study, a meshless formulation is presented for the analysis of the non-Fourier heat conduction in the materials. The formulation is based on the symmetric local weak form of the sec...

A new method for the numerical evaluation of domain integrals in a 3D boundary element method for transient heat conduction

A new method is proposed for the numerical evaluation of domain integrals in a 3D boundary element method. These integrals arise in the solution of the transient heat conduction problems, using a time-dependent boundary integral equation method named as pseudo-initial condition method. As the time-dependent kernel in the domain integral is close to singular when small time step is used, a strai...

Study of transient heat conduction in 2.5D domains using the boundary element method

This paper presents the solution for transient heat conduction around a cylindrical irregular inclusion of infinite length, inserted in a homogeneous elastic medium and subjected to heat point sources placed at some point in the host medium. The solution is computed in the frequency domain for a wide range of frequencies and axial wavenumbers, and time series are then obtained by means of (fast...

Development of a Moving Finite Element-Based Inverse Heat Conduction Method for Determination of Moving Surface Temperature

A moving finite element-based inverse method for determining the temperature on a moving surface is developed. The moving mesh is generated employing the transfinite mapping technique. The proposed algorithms are used in the estimation of surface temperature on a moving boundary with high velocity in the burning process of a homogenous low thermal diffusivity solid fuel. The measurements obtain...
